ConnectGV Major Fundraiser

Wednesday, 13 July 2011

Construction on the ConnectGV / JG King Charity House is progressing well, the roof is on, the electrical and plumbing are complete and brick layers are working this week. It is anticipated that construction and landscaping will be complete in September and the home will be on display for approximately four weeks, then the house will be placed on the market in October.

This is the first time in our 57 year history that we have undertaken a fundraiser of this scale and asked the community for assistance. All funds raised will go to the ConnectGV Foundation to be utilised to build independent living units for people with a disability. These units will enable people to live independently with arrangements that are more appropriate to their individual needs. Residents within these units will still have access to daily outreach support and they will be able to live independently within a community setting that is close to transport, shops and community facilities. Not only will these units be more appropriate to their needs it will also free up accommodation in community residential units for those that do require supported accommodation.

To date we have had great support from the local media and business community, along with JG King's building management support, we have had items pledged for the goods and services auction and have received support for the construction of the house. Items pledged include donations of labour from tradesman, an offer to wash the bricks after construction free of charge, GAME Contracting will be donating the temporary fencing for the site, Prominent Group have donated the site signage and will be undertaking all printing for the fundraiser, Go Tafe will design all promotional material and GV Furniture World will supply the furniture for the home display period which will also be available for sale upon completion of display with proceeds going to the ConnectGV Foundation.

The sale of the house will be marked by a gala dinner and goods and services auction at a local venue on the 18th November that will not only assist to raise the additional funds needed for the independent living units, it will also be a celebration of ability, showcasing ConnectGV's milestones and achievements over the 57 year history and the options available to local people. Attendees will be able to bid on a car from Ken Muston Automotive, a fishing boat and a Seadoo from Boats and More, a day with well know sporting identity Merv Hughes, a day spa package from Shepparton Skin and Body Spa and a Tatura Race Club Race day package for 10 people and more!

Watch this space, we look forward to providing you with regular updates on the progress of this exciting fundrasier.
